History
In 1990 Herb and Virginia Veith (then in their early 60s) met an evangelist from Kenya who had started 30 small churches in the western part of Kenya. In October of 1993, he invited the Veiths to come to Kenya.
While there, Herb and Virginia saw young children running around in ragged clothes, dirty and full of sores. They were told these children lived and slept on the street. They begged for food as they had no parents to care for them. The Veiths committed to sending the evangelist a few dollars each month so he could buy them an occasional lunch.
After returning home, the Veiths began getting letters explaining how the children knew God must love them very much because He had sent someone from America to help them. They visited again the next year. When they arrived, over fifty children greeted them with enthusiasm beyond description, excited that the Americans had returned.
The Veiths were soon able to locate an abandoned home. Mission to the Fatherless began with ten children who were sent to school on the premises where the home was located. The ministry grew to include two large orphanages, one in Kakamega and one in Oyugis. Through generous friends, God provided more than these children could have imagined: quality facilities, nourishing meals, medical care, clothing, an education, people who love them and a God who loves them even more. Those children will always remember Papa Herb and Mama Virginia for their love and kindness to them in the name of Christ.
“For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.”
